Lines for Life Welcomes the Return of LGBTQIA+ 988 Option 3

Lines for Life remains committed to providing inclusive, affirming crisis support to every Oregonian

Portland, Ore. — Lines for Life welcomes the return of specialized LGBTQIA+ services through the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. The Press 3 option resumed September 30, providing a dedicated pathway to specialized crisis support for LGBTQIA+ youth.

As Oregon’s 988 provider, Lines for Life is committed to making sure every person who reaches out can find a place where they feel safe, respected, and heard. Our counselors answer 988 contacts without judgment and meet people where they are.

“Everyone deserves to feel welcome when they reach out for help, especially in a moment of crisis,” said Lines for Life Chief Clinical Officer Greg Borders. “For LGBTQIA+ Oregonians, knowing they can reach 988 and receive empathy and care matters. Our counselors are trained to provide that kind of support to anyone who reaches out.”

For Lines for Life, inclusive crisis care extends throughout the 988 system. Everyone who reaches out should be treated with dignity and have access to support that respects their individual experiences and needs.

“Press 3 adds an additional resource for LGBTQIA+ Oregonians, and we are thrilled to welcome the return of this high-quality support,” said Lines for Life CEO Dwight Holton. “We are here for anyone who reaches out to us, and we want them to know they will be met with compassion and a willingness to listen.”

People in Oregon can call or text 988 to reach crisis support. The renewed LGBTQIA+ line is answered by a select network of specially trained call centers around the nation. To reach the LGBTQIA+ line, people calling 988 can press three to be connected to the network.
