Wildhorse Foundation Helps YouthLine Expand Suicide Prevention and Wellness Support for Oregon Schools
Funding will help YouthLine provide Mini-grants that empower schools and students to create stronger, more connected communities
PORTLAND, Ore. — Lines for Life’s YouthLine program received a $10,000 grant from the Wildhorse Foundation to support its School Suicide Prevention and Wellness Mini-grants program, which gives schools and students funding for projects that support mental wellness and suicide prevention.
The funding will help YouthLine provide Mini-grants to schools, districts, and student groups for projects that support student well-being and strengthen school communities. Grants support a range of school-based efforts, from staff training and wellness events to student-led programs and dedicated spaces for students.
The Wildhorse Foundation grant will help YouthLine expand the program’s reach to schools and communities in Morrow, Umatilla, Union, and Wallowa counties.
“Schools play an important role in helping young people feel connected and supported,” said YouthLine National Director Emily Moser. “This funding gives schools and students resources to create programs that make sense for their own communities. We’re grateful to the Wildhorse Foundation for investing in young people and the people who support them.”
YouthLine’s Mini-grants are part of its broader School Suicide Prevention and Wellness Program, which provides Oregon schools with resources and support for suicide prevention, intervention, and postvention. The program helps schools develop sustainable approaches that reflect the needs of their students and communities.
During the 2024-2025 school year, activities supported through YouthLine Mini-grants directly reached an estimated 50,000 students across Oregon. Schools have used the funding to give students more opportunities to connect with one another and access mental wellness support.
“Young people often have some of the best ideas about what their peers need,” said YouthLine Statewide School Suicide Prevention Manager Shay Clarke. “These grants give students a chance to take those ideas and put them into action in their own schools and communities.”
Schools and student groups with ideas for strengthening mental wellness and preventing suicide can learn more about YouthLine’s Mini-grant opportunities and apply for funding throughout the year.
