Suicide Prevention is Year-Round

Suicide Prevention Month

As September comes to an end, so does Suicide Prevention Month. But for Lines for Life, suicide prevention never ends. Every day, someone in our community needs support, which is why we see this as a year-round effort. Suicide is complex and there is no single solution, but one thing we know for certain is prevention is possible, and it begins with connection. The conversations we have, the policies we support, and the way we show up for each other matter.

The most powerful thing we can do is keep the conversation going. Talking openly about suicide and mental health breaks down stigma and creates a space where people feel like they can ask for help whenever they need it. These conversations shouldn’t stop just because September is over. This is when they matter most, when awareness campaigns end and it’s up to organizations like Lines for Life, communities, families, and workplaces to carry the message forward.

So, join us in keeping the conversation going. Contact your policy makers, leaders, and decision makers and share with them why suicide prevention is important for our communities. Advocacy makes crisis lines like 988 possible and ensures resources are available in every community. Vote for measures and legislation that support behavioral health and suicide prevention programs. Systemic change ensures crisis lines are not only here today, but for as long as they’re needed.

Donate if you can. Crisis lines and prevention programs depend on funding to keep serving our communities. Every dollar helps us train community members and volunteers, expand crisis services, and connect people to resources and support when they need it most.

Bring conversations about mental health into your communities, share resources and show up to events. Help build a culture where support and connection are the norm. Most importantly, if you or someone you know is struggling, don’t wait. Reaching out for help is a sign of strength. Call or text 988, connect with YouthLine, reach out to our Military Helpline or Construction CareLine, or talk with someone you trust. You never have to go through it alone.

At Lines for Life, we believe hope is something we create together, and support is for every walk of life. That’s why our team works every day to answer calls, train our communities, and create safe spaces for connection and healing. We hope you’ll join us in this work, because prevention doesn’t happen in a month—it happens when we keep showing up for each other.
