Note: this training is not available virtually and is thus, suspended for the time being. If you are interested, please complete this Training & Course Offerings Interest Form and we will contact you when we resume.

Length: 3.5 hours

Intended for: Community Members

Learn how to identify people that are having thoughts of suicide, confirm that thoughts of suicide are present, and connect the person to resources. The safeTALK program aims to make the community safer by equipping the public with the techniques and skills each person needs to reduce the risks of suicide.

Participants learn how to activate a suicide alert, and help a person having suicidal thoughts. The class includes group discussions, videotaped simulations, and role playing.

After training, participants become “suicide alert helpers” and are prepared to:
• reduce their tendency to miss, dismiss, or avoid suicide
• identify people who have suicidal thoughts
• apply the TALK steps to connect those with suicidal thoughts to intervention resources
