Black Youth Empowerment in Schools<\/h1>\n

We\u2019re creating safe spaces where young Black students can learn, grow, and thrive.<\/h2>\n

Education should be a place of empowerment, but for many Black youth, challenges such as community violence, racial trauma, and systemic barriers can create barriers to success.<\/p>\n

Lines for Life\u2019s Equity Team is working alongside schools to provide a culturally specific curriculum that fosters empowerment, connection, and resilience. Through culturally specific programming, we are partnering with two Portland elementary schools<\/b> to support Black students, staff, and families in building resilience, confidence, and community.<\/p>\n

Our curriculum is influenced by H.E.A.T 4 Youth (H4Y), a therapy program specifically designed for young Black male youth. H.E.A.T. \u2014 Habilitation, Empowerment, and Accountability Therapy \u2014 is a culturally relevant, responsive, and strength-based approach that provides a positive and engaging treatment experience.<\/p>\n

And it\u2019s working! Reading scores among participants have increased 97%. Counselors and teachers are reporting more respect from students toward their female teachers.<\/p>\n

Bringing Mental Health & Cultural Empowerment to Schools<\/h2>\n

Through monthly school-based lessons,<\/b> our team supports students in navigating identity, mental wellness, and self-empowerment<\/b> in a way that traditional school programs often overlook.<\/p>\n

Our lessons create a trusted, community-centered space<\/b> where students can:<\/p>\n

  • Build self-confidence and pride<\/b> by learning about Black history and influential figures.<\/li>\n
  • Develop emotional resilience <\/b>through stress management, trauma education, and decision-making strategies.<\/li>\n
  • Practice positive affirmations<\/b> and understand the importance of self-worth.<\/li>\n
  • Learn the power of respect<\/b> and how to apply it in the classroom and beyond.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    By offering one-on-one support,<\/b> encouraging peer connections, and emphasizing accountability, we help students navigate the cultural impacts of being a young Black male in today\u2019s society<\/b>.<\/p>\n

      “One of the first things you learn in school is Maslow\u2019s Hierarchy of Needs. If basic needs aren\u2019t met, students can\u2019t engage with academic work. These lessons are doing that for this group of students. They have shown tremendous growth since having their needs met.”<\/p>\n
