We often find ourselves asking our teens to avoid parties where alcohol and drugs will be available. But do we really consider that our own actions speak volumes? After all, the single most used and abused drug is alcohol.
Here’s a challenging question: Could you throw a party for your adult friends where alcohol was not served and still have a good time? It would take some planning and getting folks to agree to the concept, but yes is the answer. It may be difficult to get your head around the thought, but it is key to how we send messages to children.
This isn’t to ask for Temperance, but to challenge us all to consider the weight of our example versus the words we use when dealing with our children.
It’s a hypothetical question, but one that deserves discussion.
